Why do you feel the need to say that other religions are wrong?

Question:

Hi,

I'm just wondering why do you feel the need to tell everyone else that their religions are wrong? How are you so sure yours is right? You don't have any more proof then other religions do. I just think it's ridiculous that you and other people feel it's up to them to change everyone's views. I myself was raised Christian, but I don't believe in God. However, I don't talk to people and try and convince them God isn't real. Religion isn't factual it's all beliefs. So, I don't see how it can possibly be your duty to change other's beliefs because they aren't yours so it's none of your business to change what they believe. I'm sorry if I am wrongfully accusing you of anything, but I'm just wondering why can't you accept that your religion isn't necessarily the only true one?

Answer:

Hi.

I'm also wondering why you feel the need to tell other people that their religion is wrong. What do you have, beyond your own feelings and opinions that make you so sure you are right and Christianity is wrong? Because you have a belief, unsupportable as it is, it does not lead to the conclusion that other people cannot express their beliefs.

The reason why I teach is that I believe in God. My teaching people regarding their need to change is a part of my religion. "I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry" (II Timothy 4:1-5). It is very much a part of Christianity to convince people of truth and their need to live by it.

I understand why you resent the fact that I and others teach. You don't like the evidence that you are in the wrong. You don't like being made uncomfortable about how you choose to live your life, so uncomfortable that you feel the need to search out preachers and tell them to stop talking. Remember, you came to me to complain. I did not come to you.

"For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ" (II Corinthians 10:3-5).

And, yes, I have far more proof that Christianity is true than other religions. "'Present your case,' says the LORD. 'Bring forth your strong reasons,' says the King of Jacob. 'Let them bring forth and show us what will happen; let them show the former things, what they were, that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them; or declare to us things to come. Show the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that you are gods; yes, do good or do evil, that we may be dismayed and see it together. Indeed you are nothing, and your work is nothing; he who chooses you is an abomination'" (Isaiah 41:21-24).
