I encourage you to remove “Affair-Proofing Your Marriage” from your website

Question:

The article by Mark Broyles, "Affair-Proofing Your Marriage," on your website is spreading a myth - short of being able to mind-control your spouse, there is no way to prevent an affair. One's partner can do anything they choose to do. I encourage you to remove the article. It's poor to see shoddy theology being proposed by the churches.

hank you for your consideration.

Answer:

It is very clear that you did not read the article since it is directed to an individual to prevent straying into adultery and not to a spouse to keep the other from going into adultery. So we start out with you giving "advice" based on not knowing what you are objecting to. "Do not strive with a man without cause, if he has done you no harm" (Proverbs 3:30).

Second, unlike brother Broyles who cited Scripture to back his points, you seem to expect people to take your personal assertions as facts. I'm sorry but your opinions have no weight. "A fool has no delight in understanding, but in expressing his own heart" (Proverbs 18:2).

But I'm glad at least the title got you thinking about this important issue. I hope that next time you'll actually take time to read an article and consider what is said in light of God's word.

"This is a trustworthy statement; and concerning these things I want you to speak confidently, so that those who have believed God will be careful to engage in good deeds. These things are good and profitable for men. But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and strife and disputes about the Law, for they are unprofitable and worthless. Reject a factious man after a first and second warning, knowing that such a man is perverted and is sinning, being self-condemned" (Titus 3:8-11).
