I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend a few weeks ago and now I’m not feeling well. What could be wrong?

Question:

Hi. This the first time I have felt like this. My boyfriend was here a couple of weeks ago and we had unprotected sex. Six days later I started feeling dizzy, not eating a lot, and everything smells bad. I'm not in the mood to do anything and underneath my belly button, it's hard. What does it mean?

Answer:

It means you either picked up an infection or you got yourself pregnant. The latter one is the more likely explanation. Pregnancy affects women differently, but some common early signs of pregnancy are:

  • Missing your next menstrual period,
  • Feeling usually tired,
  • Feeling sick to your stomach,
  • Dizziness,
  • Tender breasts,
  • Becoming sensitive to smells,
  • Changing tastes in food, and
  • Bloating that makes clothes fit tighter.

Since you are past the two-week mark, you should get a pregnancy test, either at home or from your doctor.

If you are pregnant, as I suspect, you've acted irresponsibly and now it is time to act responsibly. Because of you and your boyfriend's sin you brought a child into the world. That child needs a loving mother and father to raise him. I don't know if you and this boyfriend of yours are in the position to marry or even if you two really love each other. But if the two of you can't be good parents for this child, then find a godly couple who will be willing to adopt the child.

Whether you are pregnant or not, you and your boyfriend need to face the fact that what you two have been doing is sinful. "Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge" (Hebrews 13:4). It is sinful whether a child was conceived or not. God said sex should only be for a married man and woman for good reasons. One of those is to prevent children from having to face life without both a mom and a dad.
