What was the first lie told in the Bible?

Question:

What was the first lie told in the Bible? Was it the serpent talking to Eve?

Answer:

Yes, it was.  God had said, "Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die" (Genesis 2:16-17). The serpent added one little word to change the whole meaning of what God had said, and it deceived Eve.  "Then the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die"" (Genesis 3:4). Deceit is a lie.

"You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it" (John 8:44).
