Should I propose?
Question:
I have read some of your answers as regards marriage and making the right choice. I have always prayed to God to give me His perfect will. I have a girl I truly love -- we both love each other -- and I want to get married to her by God's grace.
- How do I know she's God's will for me?
- Can I go ahead and propose to her?
- I seem to be scared, somehow, because I am not financially buoyant
- What do I do?
I have always wished to be married to someone from a rich background. But the one I love isn't from a rich background at all. She truly loves me for whom I am. What do I do? Although I haven't proposed to her yet, do I go ahead and propose?

Answer:
God's will is that men marry women who will be their lifetime companions (Ecclesiastes 9:9; Romans 7:2-3). So is this the woman you want at your side for the rest of your life?
God's will is that you put the other person ahead of your own desires. "So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church" (Ephesians 5:28-29). So is this all about her or all about you?
God's will is that a person chooses to love another regardless of current problems. "Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails" (I Corinthians 13:4-8). So are you determined to make this work, even through the rough times?
Money isn't the critical factor. It is easier to work hard when you know someone you love is dependent on you. Sure, you'll have to make choices and sacrifice some things along the way, but if she is willing to stand by your side in the struggle -- it is worth it.
God tells us how to make good choices, but the choice remains yours to make.
