I’ve committed to God to stop lusting, but I’m tempted daily

Question:

Please pray for me. I am 43 years old and still struggling with lust. I am born again and washed in the blood. I have made a commitment to God to stop lusting, but I am tempted daily. Please pray for me.

Answer:

Just because you have resolved to clean up your life and practice self-control, it doesn't mean Satan has given up on trying to pull you back into sin. No one has to give in to lust. "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?" (Romans 6:1-2). So, take control of your life. "Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified" (I Corinthians 9:24-27).
