Don’t Believe Everything You Think
by Chadwick Brewer
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5).
Humility can be partially defined as not trusting everything you think so that you can be taught, corrected, or guided into better understanding.
We get into all kinds of trouble when we trust in our own thoughts. And what foolishness it is when we do! We know that our knowledge and experience are limited. We know we’ve often been wrong before. We know we’ve misunderstood and misheard things in the past. So why do we keep putting so much confidence in what we think?
May we have humble hearts that do not trust in our own understanding. May we lean fully on our Creator, who knows us better than we know ourselves and knows what is right and best for us, even when we do not. May we always be zealous for instruction, guidance, and correction.
