Are You an Overcomer?

by Terry Wane Benton

John said that "greater is He Who is in us, than he that is in the world" (I John 4), but the question is, "Is God in us?"

Have we so little of God in our hearts that the world overcomes us? Are we beaten down so easily that we have no stamina to stand against the devil's wiles? Is there power in our relationship to Christ so we believe ourselves to be "more than conquerors" (Romans 8:31ff)?

There must be some substance to our faith, or we have no such conviction that could be so empowering and motivating. John wrote again, "He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels" (Revelation 3:5 NKJV).

Imagine that day you are standing in that vast crowd gathered around the throne of God, and God speaks your name. "Have you considered my servant ______ (put your name in that blank)?" Chills run down your spine that someone higher in rank and power than any king or president just called out your name as an "overcomer!" Your name was entered into the most important ledger and has never been removed. Jesus confesses your name before the Father and all the holy angels. The highest honor is yours. Why? Because you did not cave to worldly pressures. You held your conviction firm to the end.

You had God in your heart, and you never forgot who the winners would be in the end. You hear, "Well done, good and faithful servant, enter into the joys of your Lord." What a glorious moment that will be if you are an overcomer.

How does it look right now for you?
