Are we wrong to stream services on Facebook?

Question:

Hello!
God bless the work you do always utilizing your page to study and to get answers. Great work and God bless you always.

Question: Are we in the wrong in continuing to use Facebook Live for worship service on Sundays?

Thanks!

Answer:

Video recordings of worship services are not a replacement for actually attending services. The command is for Christians to gather together in a location.

  • "... when you come together as a church ..." (I Corinthians 11:18).
  • "... the whole church assembles together ..." (I Corinthians 14:23).

It is nice that those, who are unable to attend because of health reasons, are able to watch the worship of their brethren, but it is not a replacement for actually attending.

Since teaching is a part of worship, allowing non-Christians to see what worship is like and to listen to the messages being taught are good things.

Question:

Totally makes sense. Thank you.

Last question: Is it recommended to not record live so brothers don’t get lazy and stay home? Maybe post it after worship hours?

Answer:

Generally, you can't force people to do the right thing. You can only encourage them to live righteously.

If someone is inclined to stay home, they will do so whether the recording is in real-time (live) or after the fact. When the recording is posted won't change the behavior.

Response:

Thanks for the feedback. It really helps a lot.

God bless you again for your work for the Lord. I will reach out with anything else in the future.
