Why do you have a double standard in regards to divorce and remarriage?

Question:

I notice that members of the churches of Christ, who have been divorced and remarried, say they have a biblical divorce caused by fornication, no questions asked, but you all judge others in different churches as having an unbiblical divorce and marriage. Why the double standard? Please don't insult me by saying you don't have a double standard.

Answer:

I know there is no double standard here and I know of none in all the congregations I have visited. We don't treat people inside the church differently from those who are not members. There is only one rule: "And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery" (Matthew 19:9). God's laws apply to all people, whether they are Christians or not.
