What is consecration?
Question:
Hello brother Jeffrey,
I have a question for you. Biblically speaking what is consecration? I noticed that this word had multiple definitions.
Answer:
The Hebrew word qadhash means "to be holy." Thus, it refers to things or people dedicated to God or set apart for use in service to God.
"Sanctify to Me every firstborn, the first offspring of every womb among the sons of Israel, both of man and beast; it belongs to Me" (Exodus 13:2).
"You shall speak to all the skillful persons whom I have endowed with the spirit of wisdom, that they make Aaron's garments to consecrate him, that he may minister as priest to Me" (Exodus 28:3).
"King David also dedicated these to the LORD, with the silver and gold that he had dedicated from all the nations which he had subdued" (II Samuel 8:11).
It can also be used for events that God set in motion and, thus, are dedicated to God's purpose or prepared by God to accomplish a task of His. "For I will set apart destroyers against you, each with his weapons; and they will cut down your choicest cedars and throw them on the fire" (Jeremiah 22:7).
