Jesus, the Life

by Terry Wane Benton

"Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me" (John 14:6).

Jesus is the source of life. In Him we live, move, and have our very being (Acts 17:28). "He gives to all life, breath, and all things" (Acts 17:25). Your life and very breath is given and sustained because Jesus is the source of all life. Use it wisely, for you do not know how long your physical life will be sustained. "What is your life? It is a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away" (James 4:14). After that is the judgment for how you used your time (Hebrews 9:27).

But Jesus is the source of spiritual life. We (Christians) were "dead in trespasses and sins" (Ephesians 2:1-8). Jesus is the only way we were "raised up and made to sit in the heavenly places in Christ." He gives us spiritual life by reconciling our hearts to God by means of His death and resurrection. His blood washes away our sins. His word brings light and life to an aimless spirit and gives us love, purpose, and hope. That is truly living, with the end result of having immortal, incorruptible, eternal, glorious life. Jesus is the bread of life, giving us spiritual energy and strength (John 6) and sustaining us in our wilderness journey to the promised land. Jesus is our strength.

To know Jesus is to know real life. He is the Life God gives to all who desire a real, meaningful, purposeful, and rich life. Do you know Jesus, the Life?
