Is there still hope for me?

Question:

I am 53 and received Christ as my Savior as a teenager. I have, since then - lied, stolen, committed adultery and committed many other sins. I repent of these sins and am very sorry for them. I am ashamed to ask God for forgiveness since Jesus already suffered for me on the cross. Please pray for me. Is there still hope for me?

Answer:

It is good that you've realized that living in sin is not for Christians. "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?" (Romans 6:1-2). Hope always abounds for those who do as the Lord directs. "But if a wicked man turns from all his sins which he has committed, keeps all My statutes, and does what is lawful and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die. None of the transgressions which he has committed shall be remembered against him; because of the righteousness which he has done, he shall live. Do I have any pleasure at all that the wicked should die?" says the Lord GOD, "and not that he should turn from his ways and live?" (Ezekiel 18:21-23).

The only concern I have is whether you truly submitted yourself to Jesus. You said you received Christ as your Savior, but did you do so in the way that God said?  I would like you to read the following:
