Is it sinful to support candidates who openly approve of abortion and same-sex marriages?

Question:

Dear Minister,

Would it be a sin to lend support to candidates who openly acknowledge their approval of abortion and same-sex marriage?

Thank you for your time.

Answer:

When anyone advocates sin, Christians cannot support the stance. "Who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them" (Romans 1:32). This isn't limited to just a few topics. I don't support fornication, adultery, stealing, lying, and a host of other things as well. When someone excuses sin or justifies its practice, they lose my personal support.

Response:

Thank you, Jeffrey, for your response.

I am in agreement with everything you have stated. Some of my brethren in the church lump everything together in regards to same-sex marriage, abortion, adultery, fornication, lying, etc. However, I draw the line because I know of no politician who publicly says that lying, stealing, committing fornication or adultery, etc. is acceptable, but I do know some who say same-sex marriage and abortion are acceptable.
