I think it’s bizarre that people do NOT think prophecy has been fulfilled

Question:

Just read your article on AD 70 Doctrine. I think it's bizarre that people do not think prophecy has been fulfilled. I mean, our Lord clearly said "this generation" will not pass until "all" is fulfilled. I do not understand why people can't accept this. The Bible nowhere teaches the end to the physical world or a 3rd Coming of Christ. Do you have verses from Scripture stating it does?

Answer:

The flaw in your argument is that Jesus did not say what you claimed.

"Truly I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation" (Matthew 24:36).

"Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place" (Mark 13:30).

"Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all things take place" (Luke 21:32).

In every case, "all" is qualified by "these things." What things? The prophecies that Jesus made in the statements prior to each quote. Jesus is not stating that every prophecy will be fulfilled in that generation.

"But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up. Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat! But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells" (II Peter 3:10-12).

See God’s Timing for a detailed explanation.

No one claims a third coming of Christ. The flaw is that you claim that the destruction of Jerusalem was the second coming of Christ. The Bible doesn't teach that. See Compare Babylonian “Coming” with the Roman “Coming” and Has the Second Coming of Jesus Already Occurred? for a detailed explanation.

Question:

I disagree with you, according to a proper reading of Scripture.

Answer:

Here is a typical response. It was shot back quite quickly, telling me that the writer did not bother to look at the information I had gathered. He gives no scripture to consider or arguments to justify his views. His mind is made up and if someone shows him evidence that he is wrong, he feels justified to ignore it because he is certain that I must have read the passages wrong.

"The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man is he who listens to counsel" (Proverbs 12:15).
