I found out that the woman I’m dating had a fake marriage when she was younger
Question:
I have a question, as my head has been scrambled these past few days, though I have been praying.
I have been talking to this lady for some time now, and everything has been going well. Still, while discussing things with her recently, I realized that she got her immigration papers using a sham or fake marriage when she was younger. She's not that person anymore. She’s now a devoted Christian. I am not sure how to navigate this.
What are your thoughts on this?
Answer:
Sadly, many people have forgotten the importance and seriousness of a marriage covenant. Covenants are lifetime agreements. It doesn't matter that she wasn't serious about entering a marriage or didn't intend for the marriage to last. The reality is that she entered into a marriage covenant with a man, and that binds her to him until he dies (Romans 7:2-3).
The question you should be asking is why their marriage ended. If it ended because the immigration papers were received, she would still be bound by her covenant. If it ended because he did not take his covenant seriously and had been seeing other women, she would be eligible to marry again (Matthew 19:9).
