I committed fornication. Will our marriage be pure?

Question:

Please help me. I have committed fornication with my boyfriend. We want to get married. Will our marriage still be pure?

The boyfriend I committed fornication with is a married man. We both love God and don't want to depart from His ways, yet we have sinned. Currently, I am pregnant. He wants to divorce his wife and marry me. I feel bad because the Bible says that what God joined no man can separate.

Please guide me.

Answer:

The Bible also says that having sex when you are not married is a sin. To claim that you love God while you are involved in sin is not compatible. "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments" (John 14:15).

You have committed adultery because you had sex with a married man. Since he has broken his marriage vows, he is not allowed to leave his marriage to marry someone else. "But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for the reason of unchastity, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery" (Matthew 5:32). If his wife divorces him because of his adultery, he has to remain unmarried until his wife passes away (Romans 7:2-3). If he marries anyway, that relationship is considered to be adulterous because he is still bound by his covenant to his first wife. Just because he wants to leave his wife, it doesn't mean God agrees or approves of his sins.

As a Christian, you cannot marry this man. You'll have to find someone else. Meanwhile, you need to make preparations to raise your child or arrange an adoption for the baby.
