Every Good Work

Text: Psalms 111
I. From the beginning, God has given men work to do
A. Adam was to care for the garden - Genesis 2:15; 3:17-18
B. As Christians, we are commanded to work - I Thessalonians 4:11
C. We are being disobedient if we do not work - II Thessalonians 3:6-13
II. This should not be surprising. God works!
A. God’s Creation
1. God’s work is evident in His creation - Romans 1:19-20
2. They declare His glory - Psalms 19:1-2
3. Those who appreciate God study His works - Psalms 111:1-2
4. Have you studied what God has done? - Psalms 8:3-8
B. God’s Care
1. God is just and cares for the helpless - Deuteronomy 10:17-18
2. God has taken care of His Creation - Psalms 111:3-6
3. He watches over His people - Psalms 68:4-10
4. Have you learned from the example of God? - III John 11
C. God’s Message
1. God’s word has value - Psalms 19:7-11
2. God has taught His people - Psalms 111:7-10
3. Written for our learning - Romans 15:4
4. John 6:63 - In Jesus’ words are life
5. They need to be studied - II Timothy 2:15
III. Be like God
A. God’s care for us gives us the foundation to do good work - II Thessalonians 2:16-17
B. Be holy in your conduct - I Peter 1:13-17
C. Cleanse ourselves from sin so that we are prepared for every good work - II Timothy 2:20-21
D. Learn our Bibles so that we are equipped for every good work - II Timothy 3:16-17
E. Careful to maintain good works - Titus 3:8, 14
F. In this way, when people see your good works, God is praised because those works are really God’s - Matthew 5:16
IV. Thus, we need to be eager to work
A. Zealous for good works - Titus 2:14
B. We must be ready for every good work - Titus 3:1
C. We aren’t doing it for ourselves but for God - Philippians 2:12-13
D. Abounding in the work of the Lord - I Corinthians 15:58
V. There is limited time for us
A. Jesus understood how little time he had; yet, he was determined to make the most of his opportunities - John 9:4
B. It is what we were created for - Ephesians 2:10
