Does my parents’ adultery affect me?

Question:

Hello,

I am a faithful Christian and try to the best of my ability to follow the teachings of Christ. But unfortunately, my parents are atheists, and they had me while committing the sin of adultery. Does their sin have any repercussions on me, and if yes, what should I do?

Answer:

When Israel was in captivity, they told themselves that they were there because their ancestors had sinned. Their ancestors did sin, but what they ignored was the fact that they were continuing the sins of their parents. God holds each individual responsible for his own sins. "The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself" (Ezekiel 18:20).

While growing up in a household where God's laws are not respected does makes it harder for you to follow God because of the lack of teaching, God does not hold your parents' bad behavior against you. You have enough on your plate with your own sins.

Response:

Thank you very much for the quick response. I will continue upholding God’s law to the best of my ability.
