Do you have pictures of the eight symbols of the Holy Spirit?

Question:

Do you have pictures of the eight symbols of the Holy Spirit?

Answer:

The Bible does symbolically represent the Holy Spirit at times. For example, the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus like a dove at Jesus' baptism. "When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him" (Matthew 3:16). On the day of Pentecost, the Spirit descends on the disciples like tongues of fire. "And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance" (Acts 2:2-4). In Revelation, the Holy Spirit is represented by the term "seven spirits" because seven is the number for something that is perfect. "John, to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne" (Revelation 1:4).

Roman Catholics have taken this further and decided there are eight symbols which represent the Holy Spirit. While their list is loosely based upon the Scriptures, you will not find such a list in the Bible, nor will you find mention that there are a limited number of ways to represent the Spirit of God.

The Roman Catholic's list of eight symbols of the Holy Spirit are:

  1. water,
  2. anointing,
  3. fire,
  4. cloud and light,
  5. the seal,
  6. the hand,
  7. the finger,
  8. the dove.

Some of these are obvious, others are stretches of man's imagination, but what I find amazing is that the most obvious representation of the Spirit (wind in John 3) is ignored (the word "spirit" means "wind"). But that is what happens when a man takes it upon himself to categorize God.

So, no I don't have pictures of the eight symbols of the Holy Spirit on this website -- at least not as such. You will find pictures of most of those things in the collection.
