Do Christians celebrate Yom Kippur?

Question:

Hello!

Do Christians celebrate Yom Kippur? Should Christians fast on Yom Kippur? Why or why not? Is there anything that Christians should do on Yom Kippur?

Thanks!

Answer:

Yom Kippur and the other Jewish feasts are a part of the Old Testament. Jews continue to celebrate them because they refuse to believe that the Old Covenant is no longer in effect. "But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter" (Romans 7:6). But Christians live under the New Law of Christ (called the "Spirit") and not the Old Law of Moses (called the "letter"). For more see: Why We Don't Follow the Old Testament.
