Am I under a curse because of my sexual sins?

Question:

Good day sir,

Please, sir, I was involved in a series of sexual sins in the past. I have fornicated and had four abortions.

Sir, I stop having sex since last year and I have asked God for forgiveness. Just this morning, I was about to pray and I remember one this sexual sin I committed with a guy and his father. Though I confess it to God then, my mind is still replaying that sin and telling me to break the curse I have inflicted on myself through this sin. This act is really ringing in my mind, and I know it was something very bad that I had done. Sir, I want to ask if I need to still confess this sin to someone, so I can receive mercy from God. And secondly, my marriage has been delayed. Could this be the reason behind the delay? Please, how can I receive mercy and be totally free from my past sexual immorality?

Answer:

It is good to hear that you have taken steps to change your life. Repentance is one of those steps, but it is not the only thing that God requires. Many people see themselves as Christians without having done the things God requires to become a Christian. See How to Become a Christian. Perhaps you will find there are things you still need to do to obey God.

Sins carry consequences because sins always carry an element of harm. I don't know why your marriage has been delayed. You did not give a reason that would make me suspect it is connected to your prior sins.

Confession of sin is for Christians to help each other through the struggle of overcoming sin. "Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much" (James 5:16). God says who receives mercy, and that is the person who obeys His commands. "For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome" (I John 5:3).
