God’s Assessment of You

by Zeke Flores

"The angel of Yahweh appeared to him and said to him, 'Yahweh is with you, O valiant warrior'" (Judges 6:12).

Gideon didn't feel like a valiant warrior; he was hiding in a winepress. But God’s words weren’t based on Gideon’s feelings; they were based on His plan. Yahweh saw what Gideon would become when he trusted Him.

Judges 6 shows how God often calls people while they feel inadequate. Gideon questioned everything. He doubted himself; he doubted the situation; he even doubted God’s involvement. But God didn’t choose Gideon because he was confident; He chose him because He had a purpose for him.

The practical takeaway is straightforward. God’s calling isn’t limited by your insecurity. He speaks to who you can be under His direction, not who you feel like in the moment. Gideon had to take small steps before he took big ones, and God guided each step.

When God calls you to something, don’t wait until you feel like a “valiant warrior.” Trust His assessment more than your own. He sees the future fruit of your obedience.
