The Bible Alone Is the Word of God
by Terry Wane Benton
No other book is equal to the Bible. Neither the Quran nor the Book of Mormon equals the Bible in the marks or proofs of divine origin. What convinces me that the Bible alone is God's Word? In summary, I would appeal to three areas:
- It claims to be the word of God (II Timothy 3:16-17). That claim is important. If it did not claim to be the word of God, then we would have no business making the claim. If it is not what it claims to be, it is a deceptive book for making such a claim.
- It seems to be the word of God when we consider the history of how it has survived attacks, and how the authors wrote of Israel with no favoritism, exposing a horrible history of them. At the same time, they believed God was still guiding these writings. Usually, men who are writing on their own authority will not paint such a horrible picture of themselves. The Old Testament claims the Jews had prophets of God who were guided to write the unpleasant truth about Israel, all the while the Israelites admit these writings were from God and were the truth.
- It proves to be the word of God when we consider the many prophecies of the Messiah and the fall of Babylon, the fall of Jerusalem twice. No other book compares in prophetic predictions and accuracy. The chances of one person, Jesus, fulfilling types, shadows, and prophecies are beyond human ability to orchestrate, making the Bible alone a compelling proof of God's word.
The Quran and the Book of Mormon do not hold a candle to the bright, radiant sunshine of the Bible. Holy men of God spoke and wrote as guided by the Holy Spirit (II Peter 1:19). Getting people to honestly consider the evidence is a difficult task. But regardless of whether men will handle the evidence fairly, I hope you will be one of the good and honest hearts that study the evidence to the conclusions that illuminate your mind and heart with the truth of God.
