What is your church like?

Question:

How do you have such a great understanding of the Bible? I would love to understand and live whole-heartily according to the Bible. This is what I have been in search of. I believe in Jesus Christ, I've accepted him as my personal savior, was baptized as an infant, but would like to be baptized again as an adult. I don't know the Bible well at all but have a desire to learn more.

I'm really torn with many things. My husband never went to church, but recently he has started to go with me and the children to a Baptist church. I don't want to leave everyone we met behind. My husband always remarks on how I can't settle and be content with things. I really like to search for the truth if that makes sense.

What type of music do you play? Are you more contemporary or traditional worship believers? Do the majority of women wear skirts or dresses in the church? That question is based on the biblical verse about how women should dress differently from men. When we attend the Baptist service it is some written rule that the women and girls should wear skirts or dresses, even outside of church get-togethers. I am fine with it, but I want to understand the reasoning behind it. I really appreciate your time and ministry.

Answer:

"Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth" (II Timothy 2:15).

It seems simple enough. People can know what God wants them to do by reading and studying the message God gave mankind. What you see is the result of being a Christian for nearly forty years.

In regards to salvation, while you are on the road you haven't yet reached the goal. See "How to Become a Christian."

In regards to the church to attend, one selects a congregation based on the accuracy of its teachings, not on how many friends one has there. "Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel's, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time -- houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions -- and in the age to come, eternal life" (Mark 10:29-30).

In regards to music, see "Singing to the Lord" and "I'm so disappointed with the older people in my church. They oppose the use of RNB, hip-hop, and Reggaeton in church. What would you advise?" There is much more on the site in regards to this topic, but these should give you something to think about.

In regards to clothing, see "Is it wrong for a Christian woman to wear pants?"
