Woke?

by Terry Wane Benton

I think people in the "woke" movement need to truly wake up. It seems that depravity and everything unrighteous and evil are the fruit of the tree of this movement. You had all the markings of this movement in areas of Greece and Rome in the first century. At Corinth, it was common to see men trying to be women. Paul marked this as the sin of being "effeminate" (I Corinthians 6:9-10), or as playing the soft role when that is not actually what they were born to be. It was just another way to reveal their interest and commitment to sodomy and homosexuality. Paul said it was "unrighteous" and those who practice such "will not inherit the kingdom of God." So clear was the preaching of the gospel that it awakened the people of Corinth to their need to repent before God and to stop their sinful conduct.

"Such were some of you" (I Corinthians 6:11) indicates that there was a true "awakening" to their condition before the true and living God. God is a pure and holy being, and He holds us all accountable to a holy standard of living. We will all be judged by the word of God revealed in the Bible (John 12:48; II Corinthians 5:10). When the Corinthians heard the gospel, they were awakened to their accountability before God, their lost condition if they refused to repent, and their wonderful new opportunity to forgiveness and living hope and purpose if they did. Paul knew the gospel had the power to open the eyes of understanding (Ephesians 1:18). Corinth was what America has been decaying into, and the gospel was able to salvage some at Corinth.

The gospel has the same power today to awaken souls in depraved "wokism" segments of our country and all the world. They are lost, misguided, hopeless souls that need you to care and share the truth with them. Be a light that helps people see there is a better way, and Jesus is the Way, the truth, and the Life (John 14:6). "It is high time to awake out of sleep" (Romans 13:11). Share these needed truths far and wide! This dark world simply needs exposure to more light!
