Which one are you in The Revelations of Saint Bridget of Sweden?

Birgitta Gudmarson, daughter of Birger Persson, living in the 1300s in Sweden was famous for her visions. It is she who is said to influence artists drawing nativity scenes to make the infant Jesus appear to glow. She also stated that Mary was blonde (do recall that she is from Sweden), but that statement didn't make a large impact.

Notice that in the above statements that the writers claim she was inspired. If true, then her recorded statements would need to pass the test of a prophet. "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world" (I John 4:1).

1. No contradiction with prior revelation. "If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, 'Let us go after other gods' -which you have not known-'and let us serve them,' you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the LORD your God is testing you to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. You shall walk after the LORD your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice, and you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him" (Deuteronomy 13:1-4).
2. Always true. "But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.' And if you say in your heart, 'How shall we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?' - when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him" (Deuteronomy 18:20-22).

I didn't read far before I found Bridget claiming Jesus said, "who am present in the hands of the priest everyday." This is a reference to the Roman Catholic mass. The problem is that:

1. There is no class of priests in Christianity as it was in Jewish society. All Christians are considered to be priests. "You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ" (I Peter 2:5).
2. Jesus promised to be with gathered believers: "For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them" (Matthew 18:20). But Roman Catholics take this further by claiming that the elements of the eucharist physically change into the body and blood of Christ. That is why Bridget has Christ stating he is in the hands of the priests. Such is unsupported by the Scriptures.
3. While Roman Catholics offer their mass daily, the Scriptures tell us that early Christians worshiped on the first day of the week. "Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight" (Acts 20:7).

Thus Bridget fails the test for being a prophetess. She was not inspired by the Holy Spirit because God would not contradict Himself in His revelations. And we haven't even touched the fact that God said prophecy would cease, something Roman Catholicism denies. "Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away" (I Corinthians 13:8-10). When the perfect word of God was completely revealed, the temporary gifts were removed. This was prophecied to have happened shortly after salvation was brought to the world. ""In that day a fountain shall be opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for uncleanness. It shall be in that day," says the LORD of hosts, "that I will cut off the names of the idols from the land, and they shall no longer be remembered. I will also cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to depart from the land. It shall come to pass that if anyone still prophesies, then his father and mother who begot him will say to him, 'You shall not live, because you have spoken lies in the name of the LORD.' And his father and mother who begot him shall thrust him through when he prophesies"" (Zechariah 13:1-3). The last brutal statement means that when prophecy ended, even a person's own parents would not believe him when he claimed to be a prophet.
