What kind of body will wicked people have in the resurrection?
Question:
What kind of resurrected body will have wicked people when our Lord returns?
Answer:
"Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs will hear His voice, and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment" (John 5:28-29).
At the time of Christ's return, all the dead will be raised. There will be a separation of the good from the evil.
"Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality" (I Corinthians 15:51-53).
While Paul focuses on explaining the destiny of the righteous in I Corinthians 15, there is no reason to assume that the wicked are not also raised with imperishable bodies. This would explain why the righteous will live eternally with the Lord, and the dead will be punished eternally.
"Then He will also say to those on His left, 'Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels.' ... These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life" (Matthew 25:41, 46).
Eternal punishment would not be possible for people with mortal bodies.
