Have you wondered just what “the law” refers to in the New Testament? It does not always refer to the Ten Commandments. Note the following:

  • Genesis is called the law. Galatians 4:21-23 refers to Genesis 16:15; 21:1-3.
  • Exodus is called the law in Romans 7:7 which refers to Exodus 36:26-27.
  • Leviticus is called the law in Matthew 22:35-40 which refers to Leviticus 19:18.
  • Numbers is called the law in Matthew 12:3-6 which refers to Numbers 28:9-10.
  • Deuteronomy is called the law in Matthew 22:35-40 which refers to Genesis 4:6-8; II Chronicles 24:15-21.
  • The Psalms is called the law in John 10:33-35 which refers to Psalms 82:6.
  • The Prophets are called the law in I Corinthians 14:21 which refers to Isaiah 28:11.

Thus “The Law” refers to all inspired Scripture in the Old Testament, not just the Ten Commandments.
