What is sensuality?

Question:

Hello,

I'm trying to find all the information I can on sensuality, but am coming up short on it, I get that it's the gratification of the flesh's desires but how does one repent of that, I'm not in any sexual immorality, I don't eat too much, what else could I be missing?

Answer:

The Greek word that is translated as sensuality or lewdness is aselgeia. It refers to shameless behavior, particularly in regards to sex. It is behavior that is involved in pure self-enjoyment or behavior characteristic of an animal. An older English word for this was licentiousness. It basically means a person who is convinced that they have a license to sin. They don't care what other people think of their behavior because they are only focused on what they want to do. They don't even try to hide their sins. "The expression of their faces bears witness against them, and they display their sin like Sodom; they do not even conceal it. Woe to them! For they have brought evil on themselves" (Isaiah 3:9).

"So this I say, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart; and they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness" (Ephesians 4:17-19).
