What do I do with the gifts a guy gave me?

Question:

Hello,

I am in a dilemma and I was hoping I could get some help. I met a young man briefly recently, but he didn't know I was married. He had the impression I was only in a relationship with the young man I spoke about, but in the real sense, I was married to him.

He started showering me with gifts with the hope of encouraging me to leave the man I was with. I even once asked him to stop sending gifts. Eventually, I decided to cut him off and make it right with Christ. but it was still a burden. I had no offering one day in church, so I dropped a wristwatch this young man bought for me in the offering basket.

My question is this: I remember just now that he gave me a gift card worth about $20, and I added some money to that and bought an item with it. Do I need to give the item away as well, or the monetary equivalent, since I have made it right with God, or is it just the devil taunting me with my past? He once told me he was only buying me gifts as a friend because he likes to give gifts and even if he wasn't trying to be in my life, he would still do the same. so a part of me still feels like he gave me the gift card just as he would have given anyone else.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Kind regards,

Answer:

What I gather from your note is that you knew the young man had the wrong impression about your availability, but you never corrected him. Yes, you once told him to stop sending gifts, but that is not the same as telling him: "Look, I'm married, and I'm not looking for another man." Would it be correct to say that you liked his attention, even though you knew it was wrong?

The proper thing to have done would have been to return his gifts to him, and if you still have his address, you should do so. You should not desire to profit from deception. If he refuses the return, then send it to a charity.

Response:

Many thanks for your prompt response.

You are indeed right, the young man had no idea. I do not know where he is at the moment. I think I will just go ahead and give the money equivalent to what he gave to me away.

Thank you so much once again.
