The things my dad listens to scare me

Question:

Sorry to bother you mister, but I need some guidance from someone who knows what he's talking about. I have read a few of your questions and answers hoping to find a person who has similar issues as mine but I have come across none so far.

OK, so my dad is a firm believer in the Most High, and by firm, I mean really firm. He calls him Yahawa. He is also part of a GMs camp and their beliefs cause fear in me. They always support them with the Bible. One of these beliefs is that all white people are evil and deserve to be burned. However, my best friend is white and she is like my sister. He also believes that marshall law is coming to America along with concentration camps and that all women are to be treated kind of like dirt. While I'm being honest, he calls my mom a demon and says other hurtful things to her, and says that God doesn't deal with women. He also says that the Russians are going to send nuclear bombs to the USA and that's the fire that the Bible talks about in Revelation. The things he says and plays around the house are terrifying to even think about, but I have faith.

I stumbled upon your website and you seem to know how to dissect the Bible, so I pray you can help me.

Answer:

If I understand correctly, your father is a member of the Black Hebrew Israelites, a set of groups that claim that people descending from African nations are the true Israelites. Of these groups, it sounds like your father is among the most radical forms.

Just because someone pulls random quotes from the Bible, it does not mean those quotes are being used correctly. Since you did not give an example, I can't show you how it is being misused. But you did mention a few topics, so let's talk about them for a moment. Since he means Revelation, I assume he accepts the New Testament.

Regarding the treatment of women: Christ teaches that all people are equal. "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus" (Galatians 3:27).

Regarding the treatment of wives: "You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered" (I Peter 3:7).

Regarding the book of Revelation, he doesn't have a clue as to what the book is about. See: The Revelation Given to John.

Jesus said, "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them" (Matthew 7:15-20). You can see the evil results of your father's beliefs. That should be sufficient evidence.

My suggestion is to move out as soon as you are able and once you are established you can mention to your mother that she is welcome to join you (assuming she also sees the falseness of this belief).
