The Bible Is Right

by Terry Wane Benton

It is right because it not only claims to be the word of God (II Timothy 3:16-17) but because it proves to be the word of God. How?

It is the only book that was written over a 1500-year period by 40 different writers of various backgrounds, but who wrote about the common theme of God, His plan to bring us a very special blessing (Genesis 2:1-4; 22:14,18; Isaiah 53), and working through a stiff-necked and rebellious nation of Israel to bring in this wonderful Savior (Isaiah 9:6).

The many prophecies of this Messiah are weaved into the sacred collection and are not of such nature as to be humanly possible to stage. You can't predict that a child would be called "Mighty God" and "from everlasting" and identify where He would be born and that He would be rejected before becoming the chief cornerstone of a mighty faith. You could not predict that when He died his flesh would not see corruption. In addition to hundreds of prophecies, the Bible embeds hundreds of story types and shadows of Jesus before He came and gave substance to those forms or shadows. No book is equal to the Bible in these marvelous ways.

The Bible not only claims to be the word of God, but it seems to be what it claims by embedding the imagery of Jesus' shadow in the old covenant, but by eyewitness testimony to Jesus by those who saw Him and presented their testimony in the New Testament. The New Testament eyewitness testimony is like the hand (substance) that fits a glove (the form of the Old Testament prophecies, types, and shadows). In all this, the Bible proves to be the word of God and not the mere wisdom of men.

Additionally, cities and nations fell by the prophecies of these men of God. Tyre, Nineveh, Babylon, and Jerusalem (twice) all were predicted to fall and did. The places and people were real. Archaeology attests to the accuracy and factual nature of the Bible. Therefore, the Bible is right. It has always been right.

Many times it was right when scientific knowledge was far behind and finally caught up with the Bible. It has more than proven to be the word of God.

Therefore, I have left doubts behind, and have become sure that the Bible is right! People continue to be ignorant and wrong, but the Bible is always right. It is right even when I am wrong in my feelings and desires and actions. It is a light in a dark world. It gives hope in a hopeless-looking situation. When I was losing hope, the word of God revived me. When my heart was dark and depressed, the word of God enlightened my darkness. The Bible is right! It deserves to be examined, not dismissed!
