Ten Commandments

by Carl A. Allen

In a home Bible class, I was told, "All you have to do, to be saved, is to keep the Ten Commandments!" I looked at the lady and said, "You do not believe that." She responded, "Yes I do!"

I posed a question, "Must one believe in Jesus to be saved?" The lady of the house said, "You know one must believe in Jesus to be saved." I then made my point. The Ten Commandments do not contain a belief in Jesus! A belief in Jesus is not found anywhere in the Ten Commandments. If keeping the Ten Commandments could save one, he could be saved without a belief in Jesus Christ. That is a false position!

Jesus said in John 8:24: "I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for except ye believe that I am he, ye shall die in your sins." One must believe in Jesus to be saved; but, the Ten Commandments do not demand a belief in Jesus. Now, if one does not believe in Jesus and is saved, then it may be possible to believe the Ten Commandments and be saved; but if one has to believe in Jesus to be saved, the Ten Commandments cannot save him! It does not demand a belief in Jesus.
