Since Jesus is going to return with the blast of a trumpet, can’t instruments be used in the worship of him?

Question:

If music is not authorized in New Testament worship, even to the point of sin if it is used, then when the Lord returns and that great trumpet sounds, will we then say that it isn't a time of worship and praise? Are we willing to say that the Lord is in sin because of his authorization to use the trumpet to announce His return?

Answer:

"For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first" (I Thessalonians 4:16).

While personal praise and worship will go on at the Lord's return, this is not the same as the worship services outlined by God that Christians are required to attend and perform. It is Christ who holds all authority (Matthew 28:18). It is he who decides how he wants his worship to be conducted. It is his command that singing be used (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16). He gave no authorization for any instruments of music in the New Testament to be used in the worship of him (unlike the Old Testament worship that required instruments).

Just because Jesus plans to announce his return with the sound of a trumpet, it does not follow that you are authorized to have a rock concert and call that worshiping Christ.
