Should I leave this relationship because we had sex before marriage?

Question:

I am in a relationship with a guy, and we are planning to marry in the next two years, but unfortunately for us, we have had sex. Due to that, I am planning on leaving the relationship because I think God will not accept such a marriage, even if we repent.

Please help me what should I do?

Answer:

Whether you leave this man or marry him is up to you. What God requires is that you stop your sin. "But if they do not have self-control, let them marry; for it is better to marry than to burn with passion" (I Corinthians 7:9). God is not like a man who holds a person's past against him, even when he repents.

You claim that God would not approve of your marriage to this man; yet, God instructs those in the New Testament to marry rather than tempt themselves with sin. In the Old Testament, marriage was required when fornication took place unless the girl's father objected to the man (Exodus 22:16-17; Deuteronomy 22:28-29). Getting married now instead of waiting another two years is an acceptable solution to the problem of giving into sexual desire.
