My son’s wife left him after only three weeks. Does that mean he can’t marry again?

Question:

My son married a foreign girl, but they never even got to live together. She said her mother got cancer and she had to go back to her country to care for her. She could not come back, so they got divorced. He begged her to try and work it out, but she was unwilling. They were only married for three weeks. I have a feeling she was trying to get her green card but chickened out. Does this mean he can not get married again?

Answer:

Unless your son has good reason to suspect that she returned to her country to be with another man, his divorce was not due to fornication, so he would not be able to marry again until she dies. "And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery" (Matthew 19:9). I'm really sorry about your son's situation, but all I can do is teach what the Lord directs.

Response:

Thanks for the answer. I appreciate your time.
