My husband has been bewitched into abandoning his family

Question:

Hi,

I want to know what the Bible says about my husband. He abandoned me with three small kids. He doesn't want to see them or support them. He hates us and believes that he will be blessed without us. I sought prayer and found out that he is bewitched by his parents and manipulated by his sisters. I want to know if I must still accept him back as usual when he comes back to his senses or move on with my life. It's unfair to my kids to be ignored and hurt like this. How can these people who break my marriage still go to church, do witchcraft, and their pastor allows it? All I do is pray and trust God for an answer.

Answer:

Obviously abandoning your family is wrong. "But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever" (I Timothy 5:8).

I've seen accusations of witchcraft when a person makes decisions that another person disagrees with. It is an easy excuse since it sheds personal responsibility for one's own decisions. Witchcraft has no power beyond deceit. See: Is Witchcraft Real?

Abandonment is not a reason for remarriage. The only way to marry another person is if the spouse is divorced because he was committing fornication (Matthew 19:9). In all other cases, you must remain unmarried or be reconciled to your husband (I Corinthians 7:10-11).
