Just curious regarding Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs: what are your thoughts on the genre that many of the new "brethren hymns" are written in? That's a big chunk of the "other 300", maybe pushing 1/3 of it by a wild guess?
For my own edification, and I take a lot of interest in hymnody, what is a major area you feel was lacking in this hymnal?
You seem to still favor Praise for the Lord over Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs. I have both but haven't compared the two fully. What, in your view, are some advantages of Praise for the Lord over Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs?

I don't know exactly how to answer the questions. Regarding the genre that many of the new "brethren hymns" are written in, the problem is that they're written in so many different genres, it's hard to compare them. There are a few really good ones, but the vast majority are probably mediocre at best, and a growing number are sounding more and more like the Contemporary Christian Music genre that I so dislike.
As to Praise for the Lord compared to Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs, I thought that I explained pretty well why I really like Praise for the Lord in my comments (not in the review itself, of course). I think that overall Praise for the Lord has a better selection of hymns that brethren have known through the years, that are within the reach of the average congregation to sing, and, therefore, that will actually be used.
