Jesus, the Greatest
by Terry Wane Benton
The greatest blessing of my life is Jesus. Without Him, my heart was dark, and my direction was aimless. I pretended that believers were as irrational about God and Jesus as children were about tooth fairies. I once challenged a preacher, and he sent me material that opened my eyes. I began hungering for more evidence-based material. More than a Carpenter by Josh McDowell, then Evidence that Demands a Verdict, whetted my appetite for more. From being a skeptic to being wowed by evidence I had not previously considered, I became open to the truth of the gospel. Now I can never be a skeptic again.
The Bible is amazing! It does not merely claim God is behind it; it demonstrates that only God could and would have presented the story in this way! Embedded typology and prophecies inside a nation that was stubborn and rebellious to God, yet God working out the purposes and prophecies are amazing factors that show that human wisdom alone cannot account for the Bible. Man couldn’t have invented such features, and man would not have made themselves look so bad even if they could have.
The Bible provides evidence and demonstrates why Jesus is so great. He is wonderful (Isaiah 9:6f). He gives me a clear conscience regarding my sins through His wonderful forgiveness, made possible by the cross. He gives me a wonderful hope of eternal life in paradise via the evidence of His resurrection. He gives me purpose and direction, and helps me, through His word, to remember what is and is not important in this journey. He challenges me to keep improving and climbing higher in Holy standards. Jesus is the greatest thing that ever happened to me!
