Is there any certain prayer of forgiveness for fornication?

Question:

Hi,

I'm a Catholic. I'm in need of advice! I've committed fornication with a girl I'm in a relationship with! I prayed to God for forgiveness! Is there any certain prayer of forgiveness to pray for the sinful acts I've done? I don't want to turn my back on God again. I only want to grow closer to Him so I can be welcomed into His kingdom! I know God loves me so much. I just wish I had the willpower to turn from sin instead of continuing to commit sin! I've read a book that has helped open my eyes and grow closer to Him, but I was just hoping you had advice for me.

Thank you so much for listening!

Answer:

I am not a Catholic, but a pure and simple Christian. My advice comes from what God teaches in the Bible, so it doesn't always match what the Catholic church teaches since they use their traditions in addition to the Scriptures.

There are no fixed prayers in the Bible. Being a Christian isn't a matter of chanting some prayer as if it was an incantation. There are many examples of prayers in the Bible, but they were not meant to be repeated word-for-word. Rather they serve as guidelines for how to express what is in your heart to God.

When a person realizes he is sinning, his first goal is to get into a proper relationship with God by becoming a Christian. Sadly many denominations have altered what God said must be done, but you can learn about what the Bible teaches in What Must I Do to be Saved? A part of becoming a Christian is that your past sins are washed away in baptism (Acts 22:16).

When a person is a Christian and finds himself trapped by sin, then he repents of that sin (II Corinthians 7:10-11) and takes his confession of wrong to God in prayer (I John 1:8-2:1). Repentance means a person changes his mind about the sin he committed, no longer trying to justify it, and changes his behavior, putting a stop to what he is doing.

Sin doesn't have to be continual. There is always a way out that doesn't require you to sin. "No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it" (I Corinthians 10:13). Often the reason a guy keeps falling into sexual sin is that he doesn't try to turn from sin until he is so caught up in sexual feelings that he stops thinking. You have to stop the progression toward sin before you get nearly that far.

Response:

Thank you for responding, minister! I appreciate your words of wisdom! I am close to my faith, and I know that though I have made mistakes in my life, God is still there to help guide me! Thank you for listening! Have a good day!
