Is it a contradiction that Jesus said he would send the Holy Spirit, but he also said some would see him coming in his kingdom?

Question:

Dear Preacher,

In Matthew 16:28 Jesus said, "Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom."

My question is did Jesus came on the day of Pentecost when the church was established? Because this contradicts with the words of Jesus where he promised the disciples to send the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost.

Please clarify.

Answer:

"Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom" (Matthew 16:28).

"And He said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you that there are some standing here who will not taste death till they see the kingdom of God present with power"" (Mark 9:1).

"But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the kingdom of God" (Luke 9:27).

The three parallel statements all say the same thing and are not contradictory. Jesus stating that his kingdom would be established with Jesus being the head within the lifetime of those he was addressing. It is the prophecy that Daniel made: "I was watching in the night visions, and behold, One like the Son of Man, coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought Him near before Him. Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His kingdom the one which shall not be destroyed" (Daniel 7:13-14). "Coming in his kingdom" is a way to say he would possess or receive his kingdom. As the thief on the cross stated, "Then he said to Jesus, "Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom" " (Luke 23:42).

That kingdom had come. "Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, "Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death" (Revelation 12:10-11).

Evidence that Jesus came into his kingdom was seen in the sending of the Holy Spirit to the disciples. "But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me. And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning" (John 15:26-27). Just before Jesus ascended into heaven, where he received his kingdom, the disciples had asked, "Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, "Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?" And He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth" " (Acts 1:6-8). "So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God" (Mark 16:19). And with him taking the throne we read of the Spirit coming in Acts 2. "And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance" (Acts 2:4).
