I had wondered why I wasn’t hearing God’s voice as other people claimed

Question:

Hello Jeff,

I don't know if you will read this or not because I notice that you have a very busy schedule with all the work that keeping the website implies.

I just wanted to thank you for your comments on the answer to Should I have faith in God getting this girl to like me? Just yesterday I was reading about people "hearing" God telling them to do or not to do and I was asking myself "why am I the left-out child? I don't hear voices. In the past weeks, I have come across people asking me directly if I hear God, so I just assumed that I am not there yet. Silly me, I just should have come to the Bible!

My husband told me that the "hearing God" that people claim was just a crazy thing and that God answers prayers the way He wishes. That put me back on the right track.

Thank you very much for all your work and advice.

Answer:

Thank you for the kind words. I do read all the email that comes in. Responding to it all has been the difficult part.

I know people who sincerely want to believe that it is God they are hearing. Some will admit that it isn't an actual voice but a feeling they have inside. Since everyone else says "God told me ...," they use the same catchphrase without thinking about what it actually means. It can be hard to get past this. Far too many people would rather believe their imagination than what God actually said in the Bible. Saddest are those who claim God told them things that directly contradict Scripture. They never stop to think that God cannot lie (Titus 1:2); therefore, God does not contradict Himself.
