How was Zacchaeus’ family saved with Zacchaeus?

Question:

Dear Brother Hamilton,

What does Luke19:1-10 mean when it says Zacchaeus' whole household was saved when he (Zacchaeus) was saved?

Answer:

"And Jesus said to him, 'Today salvation has come to this house, because he, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost'" (Luke 19:9-10).

Zacchaeus had just told Jesus that he repented of his past sins and told him what he planned to do to make up for them as best he could. Because he was changing, Jesus told him that salvation had come to his house. Why his house? Because when the leader of a family changes, it impacts the rest of the family as well. Because Zacchaeus is now pursuing righteousness, the result of his household will likely follow his example. The process had started for Zacchaeus and his household, and if they continued the path, they would eventually reach their destination.
