How can I make sure I’m not doing anything wrong?

Question:

I think I feel a lot better after our discussion and it's appreciated.  Any other advice you can give is appreciated.  I just want to make sure I am not doing anything wrong.  I try every day to live like Jesus, but like probably everyone else I find it extremely difficult.

Answer:

I'm going to ask you a series of questions so that I can understand where you are at in your relationship with God. There isn't a right or wrong answer per se, but simply questions dealing with what has happened in your life. I'm sorry the questions are vaguely worded, but there are so many beliefs among the denominations, it is hard to capture in a few questions what everyone has done.

  1. How old were you when you made a commitment to Christ?
  2. Did you make a confession at the time of your commitment?
    1. If yes, what did you confess?
  3. Have you been baptized?
    1. If yes, how were you baptized?
    2. Were you baptized before or after your commitment?
    3. How long was it between your commitment and your baptism?
    4. Why were you baptized? (i.e. For what purpose were you baptized?)
    5. Were you saved before or after your baptism?

Next, I would like you to increase your knowledge of the Bible. What I will do is send you some passages to read and a few questions about the passages. The questions should be answerable straight from the passage. Don't answer with what you believe you know. Read the passage and answer the questions based on what it says. I hope they will get you thinking and stir up some discussion.

II Peter 1:3

  1. Has God given us everything we need for life and godliness?
  2. What does life encompass?
  3. What does godliness encompass?
  4. Since all things have been provided, do you need any additional information, other than the Bible?

II Timothy 3:16-17

  1. How much of the Bible is inspired?
  2. What four things can the Bible do for you?
  3. Do you need any other revelation to make you spiritually complete (or perfect)?
  4. Is it your understanding that the New Testament is the law now spiritually binding?

John 12:48

  1. Will the words of Jesus judge you on the last day?

John 10:10

  1. For what purpose did Jesus come?
  2. Is what he taught only for getting us to heaven?

John 14:6

  1. Could the words of your mother, father, spouse, friends or neighbors give you the abundant life if they differ from Jesus' teachings?
  2. Could the words of religious leaders, such as Joseph Smith, John Calvin, Martin Luther, or the Pope, give you the abundant life if they differ from the teachings of Jesus?
