How can God condemn homosexuals when He made them that way?

Question:

I have read many of your answers regarding homosexuality and how it is a sin no different than stealing or adultery. Being gay myself, and having both a Christian mother and Atheist father, I have constantly pondered about religion and my sexuality. What do you feel is God's reason or justification for condemning those who are born with sexual attraction to their own gender? It has been greatly proved that true sexual orientation is not a choice, but a genetic characteristic no different from eye or hair color. Why does God make millions of people gay if he considers their homosexuality to be a sin?

Answer:

You asked the wrong question. Why do people assume they were made homosexuals when no evidence of such exists.

For decades people have sought out a cause for homosexuality. Theories have been proposed to say it came from genetics, environmental conditions before birth, and the environment in which a person was raised. None of the studies have proven to be true. If homosexuality is genetic, what gene causes it? I know where the genes are that control hair and eye color. They are well known. No one has proven a claim to have found a gene that causes homosexuality.

I have read numerous studies and there is no study that claims to know a cause for homosexuality. The best you find is a possible tendency toward homosexuality -- and those studies do not pan out when verification was sought. There are no studies that prove that homosexuals do not have a choice in their behavior. Actually, there is strong evidence that it is a choice because there are former homosexuals. And such is mentioned in the Bible. "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God" (I Corinthians 6:9-11).

As you noted, the reason for homosexuality is mentioned in the Bible. Sin is a choice to go against God's moral standard (I John 3:4). Homosexuality is a sin because a person chooses to go against God's standard (I Corinthians 6:9-10; Romans 1:26-27). God does not make or force a person into sin. "Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed" (James 1:13-14).

A person has homosexual sex because he chooses to do so, just as others chose to commit fornication or adultery. But instead of accepting responsibility for their choices, many homosexuals want to blame someone or something else. They take the cowardly route of playing a victim while claiming to be brave for telling the world about their sexual sins.
