God HAS Spoken
by Terry Wane Benton
"God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they" (Hebrews 1:1-4).
The known evidence of God having spoken in the past through the prophets is in the evidence of predictions with known fulfillment. God alone could predict the downfall of cities and nations, which happens exactly as predicted. These were not easily predictable things. How can you predict that one city will be destroyed and never be rebuilt? How can you predict a child will be called mighty God and be from everlasting but born in a certain city? How can you predict your own Messiah would be cut off and afterward your sacred temple be destroyed? You cannot predict these things, and they happened exactly as predicted. These are the predictions you find in no other sacredly held book!
God said other gods could not do this and challenged all pagan religions to produce a god that could predict the future (Isaiah 40). He said those gods were invented by man and were limited in the same ways as their makers. Only God could speak of future events. Thus, only the Bible shows such evidence of foreknowledge, a marvelous feature that shows God has spoken.
God came in the flesh, demonstrated Himself in Jesus, and spoke to us one final time. The apostles were eyewitnesses aided by the Holy Spirit to recall, preserve, and finish the total revelation of Jesus and His new covenant. Jesus testified of sin, righteousness, and judgment to come. He demonstrated power over nature, all kinds of diseases and human ailments, demonic forces, and death itself. He proved for all time that God came and God has spoken. The word He has spoken will judge us in the last day (John 12:48). God is speaking in the revealed and confirmed scriptures that completely furnish the man of God (II Timothy 3:16-17). Are you listening to God? Where are you heading if you live obliviously to the word of God? Let us make sure that our ears and hearts are fully open to, listening to, and absorbing all that God has spoken!
