For Me?

by David Gibson

We may not have been too thrilled when we studied prepositional phrases in high school English, but consider these from First Peter. They should give us something to be really excited about!

  • “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you” (I Peter 1:3-4 ESV).
  • "According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you” (I Peter 1:3-4 ESV).
  • “... set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (I Peter 1:13 ESV).
  • “He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you” (I Peter 1:20 ESV).
  • “‘But the word of the Lord remains forever.’ And this is the word which was preached to you” (I Peter 1:25 NASB).
  • “‘Behold, I lay in Zion a choice stone, a precious corner stone, and he who believes in Him will not be disappointed.’ The precious value, then, is for you who believe ...” (I Peter 2:6-7 NASB).
  • “For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps ...” (I Peter 2:21 NASB).
  • “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you ...” (I Peter 3:15 NKJV).
  • ”If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you” (I Peter 4:14 NKJV).
  • “... casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you” (I Peter 5:7 NKJV).

Our Response

by Frances R. Havergal

Is it for me, dear Savior, Thy glory and Thy rest—
For me, so weak and sinful? O shall I be so blest?
Is it for me, Thy welcome, Thy gracious “Enter in”—
For me Thy “Come ye blessed,” For me so full of sin?
O Savior, my Redeemer, What can I but adore,
And magnify and praise Thee, and love Thee ever more?
