Dread

by Zeke Flores

Dread.

You've felt it. That uneasy, gnawing feeling that something bad is looming.

I've been feeling a little apprehensive for a couple of days and don't know why. I mean, life is good, God is gracious, and Cheryl isn't mad at me. Life is good!

But still, there it is, a sense of dread.

So, why this uneasiness?

Maybe it's just my spirit reminding me to be careful. I can't afford to become lackadaisical or complacent. Dangers lurk, especially spiritual ones, and strike when you least expect them, so we can't let our guard down. Even when life is good, there is risk.

So, while I can enjoy life and its blessings, I must also beware that it can change instantly, and it's up to me and the tools God provides to deal with it. I don't know what's lurking, but He does and will help when needed.

I may be strangely uneasy, but I'm still confident.

"For Yahweh will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught" (Proverbs 3:26).
