Can I arrange to give funds to a church from my life insurance?

Question:

I have a question about giving. I have arranged to give funds to my church from my life insurance. I was wondering if this acceptable from a biblical standpoint. I understand, that God requires us to give as we have been blessed and since this is a special giving to the church I believe that this is sound.  I just wanted to get your thoughts on this.

Answer:

The specified way to fund the work of the church is by voluntary giving on the first day of the week. "On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come" (I Corinthians 16:2). What you plan to do doesn't alter this. It should not be used as a substitution for giving each first day of the week. But I don't know of anything contrary to specifying a church as being one of your heirs, which is what you are doing with the life insurance policy.
